Letter to Hu and Wen from People of Kyi Gu DO

Greetings to President Hu and Premier Wen Jiabo,

Following this tragic natural disaster, we are grateful that the Chinese government could help us by sending rescue workers and the Army to the affected area. Their helping hands have saved a lot of lives. We are thankful for the help, and we will always remember the aid given to us.
Our society is a very religious one, and we have great faith in the teaching of Lord Buddha and His Holiness the Dalai Lama. We have had this faith since the time of our great-grand forefathers and foremothers of Tibet. The impact of this earthquake has created a great disturbance to both our bodies and minds. At this crucial moment, we appeal for you to consider permitting His Holiness to visit the earthquake affected area in order to conduct prayer chants for the victims who lost their lives, as well as to console and encourage survivors. We the people from the affect area ask the great leaders,President Hu Jintao and Premier Wen Jiabo, to take pity on us and allow His Holiness the Dalai Lama to visit.
Hundreds of thousands of people in the disaster area are hopeful that the Chinese government and His Holiness the Dalai Lama can overcome their differences in order for this visit to occur. The only reason for this appeal is for the Dalai Lama to visit solely for religious purposes. There is no hidden agenda--we merely wish for the Dalai Lama to lead us in prayer after this tragic disaster. A visit by His Holiness the Dalai Lama is the only way for us to overcome our terrible grief.
