17march2010221Dharamshala: The National Democratic Party of Tibet (NDPT) began its third General Body Meeting today. In his opening address, President Chime Youngdung set the agenda and welcomed the guests, including current and former NDPT executive members, and representatives from the NDPT’s regional chapters across India and Nepal.

Mr Chime noted that this year’s meeting is particularly important as it will select candidates for the upcoming 2011 parliamentary and prime-ministerial elections.

The party will nominate three candidates for prime minister and 45 candidates for parliament (15 from each Tibetan province) through what Mr Chime emphasized will be a transparent and fair democratic process.

The president also explained that, to have a meaningful democracy, the Tibetan government must switch to a multiparty system. With one party in power and at least one other in opposition, democracy will begin to flourish, he said.

Mr Chime added that, in addition to needing more members, the NDPT needs more administrative and managerial staff, in order to function as a credible political party.

He said genuine democracy will require the participation of all Tibetans in elections and political processes and urged party members to begin preparing and campaigning immediately.

Mr Chime concluded by wishing His Holiness the Dalai Lama a long life and the realization of all his wishes for the Tibetan people.

Mr Tsewang Rinzin, President of the Tibetan Youth Congress (TYC), next thanked the guests who had travelled so far to attend and urged active participation in the debate, to ensure a wide range of opinions be heard.

Mr Penpa Tsering, Speaker of the Tibetan Parliament, noted that the NDPT was founded 16 years ago and is like a child of the TYC. He commented that, in the past, only one person was responsible for all of the NDPT's activities, and party members did not take active roles in supporting the organization. He said that this situation has unfortunately continued during President Chime’s tenure, and urged party members to become more active.

He continued that he hoped the public would take their role as voters seriously and said they should vote for the most qualified person, instead of voting for friends or neighbors.

Mr Penpa added that the NDPT has campaigned for candidates in past elections, but ineffectively, because those candidates lacked the proper qualifications.

He noted that some Tibetans abroad have such a low opinion of the Central Tibetan Administration, and are so sceptical of the upcoming elections, that they make their disappointment and anger felt online with scathing indictments of the Tibetan community and government in exile.

Mr Penpa concluded that these people are no better than the uneducated because, although they have the ability to help the government improve, they instead make trouble.

The meeting will conclude tomorrow, after which the NDPT will release a list of endorsed candidates for the elections.

NDPT President Statement for the 51st uprising day.

NDPT President Statement for the 51st uprising day.

This year marks the year of intrigue for the brave Tibetans living all over the Tibet who had participated in the protest without preplan and gathering, but voluntarily moved forward to claim their rights from red Chinese and today we mark the 51st day of uprising. Today on this very important day we the NDPT would like to solute the hard work and dedication made by all our brave Tibetan brothers and sisters who live inside Tibet as well as all over the world and hearty welcome to all.
As of now so many Tibetans has sacrifice their life and put various pressure on china by following the non-violent path. The very act and purpose of our protest is to preserve our culture and land which actually belongs to us, to bring Tibetans who live all over Tibet closer. If we speak from different point of view our struggle doesn’t only concerns Tibetans but it is for the world peace as well.
It is clear that during those 50 years, China has done unthinkable and unbearable torture and exploitation in Tibet, especially during 1987 the great revolution and in 2008, non-violent protest in Tibet. China showed no mercy and they used all modern weapons to suppress Tibetans. Over hundreds and thousands of Tibetans were killed and many were put behind the bar without valid reasons. More over many Tibetans were kidnapped and till now we have no clues on them. So this ruthless behavior of china is Cristal clear in everyone’s eyes.
This year’s 51st uprising day is extremely important in our history. HH the Dalai Lama along with Tibetans had lived in exile for the past 50 years; during those years Tibetans in exile has done everything to stay in connected with Chinese government. Moreover, Tibetans outside the Tibet has arranged many dialogues with Chinese leaders and administrators. Nevertheless Chinese authorities keep on pressurizing Tibetans who lived inside the Tibet. China completely denied the historical facts and opposes HH the Dalai lama and Central Tibetan Administration, which in reality always try to serve and benefits Tibetans .From today onwards, we need to put more efforts and to strive for a brighter future and freedom. Need a cooperated activities initiating in every places in the world to enhance the knowledge of Tibet cause to everyone.

Exile five Tibetan NGOS hold a candle light vigil in Mcloed Ganj

5th march 2010,Exile five Tibetan NGOS hold a candle light vigil Mcloed Ganj to protest the detention of hundreds of Tibetans and the launch of “Strike Hard” campaign in Tibet Autonomous Region ahead of the anniversary of the Tibetan uprising on 10 March.

For immediate release:

The Chinese government's continued suppression has intensified in recent days. with the approach of the historic March 10 uprising commemoration and the fear surfacing the reoccurrence of nation wide uprising in 2008, the Chinese government has reportedly launched a " Strike Hard" campaign n Lhasa, Tibet's capital and in the surrounding areas to intimidate and suppress Tibetans in the lead up to this sensitive anniversary.

The campaign is aimed to quell political dissent through mass detention and arrests. More than 70 Tibetans were reportedly detained in Lhasa and the capital remains under huge presence of Chinese soldiers. Recently, the Kardze People's Intermediate court has sentenced Pema Yeshi to two year suspended death sentence on the charges of "inciting separatism" and " disturbing social order". The Chinese government doesn't hesitate killing Tibetan political prisoners with impunity and many are sentenced to life imprisonment and varying prison terms. We strongly condemn the Chinese government's brutal policies.

We beseech the Chinese government to immediately stop the persecution of the Tibetan political prisoners. The execution of loyak and Kangtsuk earlier in 2009 should be accountable as arbitrary and unlawful action of the Chinese government. And we condemn the recent two year suspended death sentence passed on to Pema Yeshi.

The Chinese government has in fringed upon on all the international laws and the Universal Charter of Human rights by launching the "Strike Hard" campaign and is a compelling testimony to the brutality of the Chinese government. We salute the bravery of the Tibetan martyrs who sacrificed their lives for the just cause and we stand in solidarity with our fellow Tibetan inside Tibet who continues to suffer under the brutal regime.
